Betty Ann “Betsy” Lindeman (Rosenthal)
Betsy’s birth certificate lists her given name as Henrietta Anna after her grandmother, with Betty Ann in quotes. She never used Henrietta Anna and disliked it. Only her husband would occasionally use that name to annoy her when he was irritated with her about something. She preferred “Betsy”.

During the summer of her 16th year, Betsy visited with her aunt, Hannah Lindeman Schwarz and husband Joe in Dayton, Ohio. The Schwarz family was heavily involved in the arts. They had given refuge to a struggling depression era artist, who paid part of his rent by painting Betsy’s portrait. It was during his summer that Betsy’s father, Sidney Lindeman, passed away.
